RESEARCH TRIP TO ITALY WITH MICHAEL BAIGENT

Me (left) and Michael Baigent (right) in our hard hats (as if our heads weren’t hard enough already!) about to enter the Oracle of the Dead at Baia. I have described the experience in my book entitled NETHERWORLD in Britain and ORACLES OF THE DEAD in the USA. Michael has also recently described it in his new book THE JESUS PAPERS. Olivia and I also filmed the underground site in the 50 minute documentary film which I wrote, produced and presented for the National Geographic Channel entitled DESCENT INTO HELL.

I had been in the tunnels at Baia near Naples for two hours, crawling through the dust, when Olivia and Jane Baigent suddenly appeared to see if Michael and I were still alive...

Michael Baigent and I did some archaeological investigating together near Naples,
and here we are discussing our findings.

On the glass-bottomed boat through which one can view the submerged ruins off the coast at Baia.

The Acropolis at Cuma is a magical place, and here the perfectly preserved Roman road winds through banks of wildflowers towards the ruined temple at the summit.

The streets of Pompeii are endless and melancholy. You should try to be there in the late afternoon and evening when the tour groups have gone, to get the real atmosphere and feel of the place. Pompeii is much bigger than you can possibly imagine, and exhausting to try to explore it all in a day.
